So… What exactly is a Blue Paper?

In the business world, a white paper is a document used to lay out complex issues and propose a solution – presented on a single page. It’s serious-minded, thoughtful and persuasive. The Blue Paper Project is our progressive twist on that concept. Think of these as white papers that have wandered off the corporate campus, had a cup of strong coffee, read a few James Baldwin essays, and decided to do something about the state of the world.

They tackle big problems and propose solutions, but do so with an extra dose of creativity, common sense, and urgency.

We start with the status quo. We point out what’s broken, and then we imagine something better – something more just, more democratic, and more possible than perhaps you’ve been led to believe. A Blue Paper might propose spreading a new phrase to re-frame our thinking, it may call for a change of a societal norm, or the re-tooling of a specific political strategy. One Blue Paper seeks to connect a developer with funding to create a new “mass action” platform, and one seeks to alter the course of an existing one. The BP Project also encourages participation – new ideas flowing both in and out.

All of the Blue Papers are meant to be shared and amplified, but there’s more you can do. Each paper includes at least one simple action you can take right now!
